I adored Summer and Oliver! Highly recommend!
By Suzanne Golt
This friends-to-lovers rom-com is another standout winner from Lauren Blakely. This is one of my favorite troupes, especially when the couple has known each other since childhood, and these two BBFs were just adorable and so easy to love.
Oliver is best friends with Summer’s twin brother, Logan, and in this case is not off limits! So happy to read that as in many books it’s forbidden. Her brother as well as half the town realize these two are a perfect match it just takes them a while to catch on. Oliver is the complete package–a successful lawyer, athletic, fit and toned, sexy with a smolder, and is British! To top it off, he is so easy going, fun to be around, and tries things out of his comfort zone, and not just in the bedroom.
Even though they’ve each thought about it “what if,” they don’t want to risk their friendship to try a romantic relationship, but as an article she meant to be personal goes public, they have no choice but pretend to be engaged.
Lauren’s books are all unique with each couple being original with their own set of quirks and aspirations. But her characters are always ones I admire and wish I could know in real life. These two actually enjoy spending time with each other, share secrets, and are the first one’s they each want to call when something good or bad happens, and they know how to apologize and mean it. Oliver is a dream and puts her needs first, wanting to make her happy, and Summer is such a good soul, so deserving of such a great man.
I love their easy banter, how they just get each other, and how they support and respect each other. And when they share their first kiss, it is just the swooniest, knee buckling, most sensual kiss ever. Lauren writes with such descriptive prose as only she can, and I just sigh out loud when reading it.
I loved Summer’s appreciation regarding learning something about herself from all her past relationships. Her tribute to Oliver as her “Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend” was so honest and hopeful. If you are looking for an easy, low-angst read, then try this wonderful standalone. There are wonderful supporting characters too, who if I am correct, will reappear in future books! Read or listen to this; it will make your heart happy.
Interesting and different storyline.
By Samantha B. Sokol
Interesting and different storyline. Summer and Oliver have been best friends since he moved to town, and while it seems like they’re attracted to each other, they haven’t ever attempted something more. She has a life goal of opening a gym for seniors, and even though she works hard and has a great idea she can’t get anyone to give her the capital to start. As a way to raise the money, she enters a contest and writes about Oliver – and it ends up going viral! Not knowing what things are about, Oliver is confused but then uses Summer to help him keep a client after he potentially loses them after the contest. Pretending to be a couple and engaged, they finally succumb to the feelings they’ve had towards each other for so long, but when things need to end for the contest, they become miserable apart. Once they realize they’re perfect for each other and come to their senses, they decide to give things a chance together and everything in their lives start to fall into place. I expected so much from this storyline, but there was something missing for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Friends to lovers witty rom com
Lauren Blakely releases a new witty and entertaining story.
What happens when you write an article for a magazine about something you learned from a relationship with an ex boyfriend? Especially when your article is about your best friend and an inside joke?
It backfires. At least for Summer and Oliver it did.
Summer and Oliver have been friends since grade school when Oliver's family moved to the United States to seek care for his sister.
Summer has worked to build her dream. That dream is close but she was turned down from the bank for a loan. She decides to write an article for a contest.
Oliver was secretly surprised when he realized the article was about him. Until it puts him in a bind with his clients.
The only way to fix the the words the internet twisted around in Summers article it to pretend they are getting married.
They both have avoided their reaction to each other. Not wanting to lose their friendship. To bad the exes from their past are making it difficult in the internet world to let them continue their charade.
Can they maintain the line of friendship?
Must READ if you want to know more about the Rom-Com from an all time favorite author.
OMG! I loved this friends to lovers romance. This is an unputdownable, fun, flirty, and delightful slow-burn story that summed up so succinctly the very essence of romance. This page-turning story completely encapsulates the madness of the first stirrings of love and lust when you can’t get enough of someone, yet they each have challenges they need to face. It was such a great read. I am not kidding, this book was everything. All the things—witty banter, humor, angst, emotions, and all of the steam. And the characters? OMG—talk about Oliver Harris! Oliver is British, a lawyer who is very, very swoon-worthy, sexy as hell, handsome, arrogant, and an eligible bachelor. Summer Clarke is very independent, goal oriented, and she is best friends with Oliver while also having a crush on him for a long time—she refuses to let anything come between their friendship. The problem? Oliver is also Logan’s (Summer’s twin brother) best friend. After a contentious social media disaster and . . . after Oliver/Summer share an epic kiss that goes viral—suddenly everything changes! Now, Oliver is starting to look at Summer in a new way—more than just his best friend and her brother’s sister. Can they just be best friends again? What do you think? They will fascinate you and frustrate you at the same time, but the banter was everything. The slow-building romance is packed with so much sexual tension. This book left me wonderfully content at its conclusion, and I can reread this book over and over again. Lauren Blakely manages to weave humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed main characters. The storyline is fluid, and it will pique your interest. I HIGHLY recommend this book. You won’t regret reading this book!!
I've been on an LB audio kick for at least the last six months. Her books are funny and the characters pull you right in from the very beginning.
Oliver and Summer are the sweetest ever!!! The prom promise and how they are always coming to each other's rescue is so cute.
I love how LB drops characters from her other series into all of her books. I'm so excited for where this new series goes. I'm counting down until Logan's story!!
So in love with Summer and Oliver!!
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend is the cutest, dreamiest friends to lovers, fake engagement romance. I loved this book!! It had everything I need in a Lauren Blakely book - flirty banter, amazing characters, heat and a lot of heart. Plus, a sexy brit that will absolutely make you swoon.
I love, love, looove the relationship between Summer and Oliver. Friends since they were young, there is a natural closeness to them. It's obvious how much they like being with each other. The tension that builds as they attempt to remain only friends while pretending to be engaged is everything. My heart hurts and melts simultaneously for Oliver and his reasons why he couldn't pursue anything with Summer.
Lauren Blakey has never let me down. She continues her amazing streak of charming, entertaining, heart happy stories with Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend. I wholeheartedly recommend picking up Summer and Oliver's story.
I loved this fake fiancé/friends to lovers romance. This book is sweet, fun, romantic and oh so steamy. Ollie and Summer’s friendship and love is one for the record books!
I thoroughly enjoyed this friends to lovers/fake fiancé storyline. Oliver and Summer’s banter is witty and oh so flirty. Their chemistry is sizzling hot. Drawn in from the beginning and hooked until the end. I also highly recommend the audio it adds an element to this story. Narration by Shane East and Andi Ardnt is superb! Definitely a must read!
This sexy ex was charming & funny!
I love reading this author’s rom-coms! This book made me laugh out loud, made me smile, made me emotional and made me swoon. The perfect rom-com! Summer was just that - she was sunny, funny, saucy, optimistic, outgoing, caring and smart. I adored her! Oliver was a charming and confident realist, and I adored him too. As the blurb states, a letter by Summer goes viral and because of a business deal, Oliver asks her to be his fake fiancee. They were best friends since they were 17. Even though both of them had more-than-friendship feelings for the other, they never acted on them. But they were inevitable, and the fake relationship leads them to where they should have always been! There was a little hiccup in their relationship towards the end of the book, but what I love about this author’s rom-coms is that it doesn’t last long but it does make me emotional. If you want to laugh, be charmed, get a little emotional and forget the outside world exists for a few hours, then read this book! I loved it, and I highly recommend it!
*I received an advanced copy of this ebook for my honest review.*
Adorable & Fun!
This was such an adorable, sweet and fun story! From the first page to the last I was completely riveted by Summer and Oliver and their fake to real relationship journey to HEA. Although being best friends for so many years, it was easy to see that nothing was ever really fake for them. I love how they have always been there for each other. They are perfect for each other! Their chemistry is off the charts and they are so cute together! As always LB infuses just the right amount of humor and emotion into this amazing story but tosses in plenty of passion and steamy times as well. I absolutely loved it!
