Description

The instant #1 New York Times bestseller

"An unforgettable—and Hollywood-bound—new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."
Entertainment Weekly

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

Unquestionably the best read I’ve had in a long time. The angles of suspense superbly woven within the story, keeping the audience hanging on every letter until the very end. A crafty masterful use if imaginative twists. I await this authors next novel with eager anticipation!

At first, the book seems to drag . . I’m sure it was just acquainting us with the characters. But after Theo reads Kathy’s emails, then gets a job at The Grove . . that’s when the action begins! There was no way in the world I was prepared for the ending . . never in a million. Well worth the read!!

Clever plot although you have to be willing to suspend your belief of reality to get into it, and there are some glaringly large plot holes- **spoiler alert ** no one writes in their journals in real time while someone is invading your house. How did he know where the gun was/how did he get in before she did? How did his actions by end of book even align with his character? Why alert people to her attempted murder when everyone was assuming it was a botched suicide attempt? Some things definitely didn’t make sense, but if you take it at face value and don’t think too much about it, it was a fun read with an original plot line I hadn’t seen before.

It took me approximately 9 hours to read this book cover to cover. Once I started, I could not stop. The whole book was absolutely captivating. If you start this book, ensure that you have an entire spare day because you won’t put it down until you are done! And the ending is one of the greatest endings to a book, maybe ever. A MUST READ!
