"I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!"--Reese Witherspoon

"Painfully beautiful."--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Admittedly, this novel doesn’t begin with a full sprint but the gradual build up and discovery of characters and plot is well worth the read. For my personal taste, a pretty large part in this book came off as a bit cliche, but it is not enough to overshadow the other amazing components. Romance combined with survival and growth makes a perfect mix as seen in this read. I would recommend to anyone looking for an intense read with a great twist.
  • Thoughtful, beautiful, couldn’t put it down.

An absolutely beautiful story that makes you feel immensely. I couldn’t sleep until I finished it. You will fall in love with the marsh of North Carolina and with Marsh Girl herself.

  • Not great

Characters had no depth, not believable story. Skip it.
  • Too bad about the poems

    By 12345qwertfdsa
This is a very good book, very entertaining and enjoyable, except for one thing. Scattered throughout the book are poems which are horrible and we later find out were written by the main character. This would be a 5-star book if the poems were decent.

I couldn’t put it down, finished it in 2 days. This book keeps you emotionally engaged with Kya, her loneliness living in the marsh and her connection with her surroundings. Looking forward to reading more from Delia Owens!
